How The Funding File prepares its guides
Last updated: Published by Cydney Mar
How does The Funding File decide what to recommend?
The Funding File recommends steps and documents based on Cydney Mar's product development approach, the Concept-to-Reality Pathway, and on published sources named on each page. Every comparison judges its entries on the same stated criteria, quotes figures exactly as published and says plainly where a source gave no figure.
Where the information comes from
Three kinds of information appear on this site, and each is labelled:
- Cydney Mar's own approach and figures, such as her pathway stages and career sales, presented as her own and not as an independent study.
- Published statistics, quoted with their source and full range, for example from IdeaProof, Product Fruits and NCSES.
- Official program pages, such as the SBA and America's Seed Fund, which readers should always check for current rules.
Rules every comparison follows
- Every entry is judged on the same stated criteria, with the same kinds of facts.
- Numbers are never rounded or altered to favour any entry.
- Where a source gives no figure, the page says so instead of estimating.
- Competitors and alternatives are described only with neutral facts.
- Each comparison ends with a visible “How we chose” section naming its criteria.
What this site does not do
The Funding File does not promise grant approval, sales or any particular result, and it does not give financial, legal, tax or eligibility advice. Client comments appear only where they are quoted from Cydney Mar's main website, with the client's name as published there.
Pages show a “Last updated” date, which changes only when the content is reviewed or revised.

How do I get started?
Start with a strategy call with Cydney Mar, where you talk through your idea, find what is holding you back and map clear next steps. You can also read the business plan template and grant application checklist on The Funding File first, so you arrive with your questions and numbers ready.
Can Cydney Mar write my business plan for a grant application?

Book a strategy call through the contact page on cydneymar.com to discuss your product and the program you are applying to.
How much does Cydney Mar charge?
Cydney Mar does not publish prices for her programs. The clearest way to get an answer is to book a strategy call through the contact page on cydneymar.com, describe your product and where you are in development, and discuss which kind of support fits your stage and budget.
What is grant funding for product startups?
Grant funding for product startups is money from a government, foundation or organization that a founder normally does not repay, used to develop or launch a physical product. Most programs fund specific costs, such as prototyping, research or production readiness, and ask for a business plan and cost breakdown showing how the money will be used and what it will achieve.
Is a grant award taxable income?
Often, yes. In the United States most business grants count as taxable income unless a specific rule excludes them, and in Canada government assistance generally either counts as income or reduces the cost of what it paid for. Treatment differs by program and country, so confirm it with an accountant before you plan your cash flow.
